I got a little sewing done on my pants this weekend, and I’m excited with what I’ve got done so far. I am a little depressed at all the time I’ve wasted with them though. For example, it took me 2 hours to put the buttonholes in because my machine kept bogging down. I was cursing the fact that I didn’t have a buttonhole foot, madly digging through my sewing stash, looking for something, anything, that might work. Then I found the buttonhole foot I didn’t know I had. After that, it took about two minutes. The next part I got (am getting?) hung up on is the fly front installation. I’ve about come to the conclusion that I was supposed to shorten my zipper to the length of the fly shield, but it doesn’t really say that anywhere. It would have been nice if it did. I’ll take out the fly, fix it, and then move on to the next step.

I cleaned out my cabinets today. Apparently, I’m subconciously worried that I might run out of things. That’s the only reason I can come up with for the 3 boxes of oatmeal, 4 boxes of saltines, 2 bags of Splenda, 5 boxes of macaroni, 4 boxes of spaghetti, and 1 2-year-old bag of flour I found today. I wish I was exaggerating about that, but I’m not.  🙂

I had asked Nathan to hang the coatrack and shelf in the kitchen for me, but he never quite got around to it. I really can’t say much, since I was perfectly capable of doing it myself and was just to lazy to. But since everyone is coming for Thanksgiving it’ s probably time we tried to make things a little more presentable.  To that end, I hung my own things in the kitchen.  Don’t they look cute? And yes, those are the hand towels I outbid you on at family reunion, Mom.

So I finally got my curtains hung this weekend, and don’t they look nice?

I thought they turned out very well, until  I noticed one little problem:

They appear to be a little short, and I’m just going to hazard a guess that it’s going to be 1 yard off. Except for the really short one, and I just don’t know what happened there. So I think my plan is to either add a small band of a different color on the panels on the end and then finish out with more of the same, and I guess on the sheers I’ll just tack the rest onto them and count on the hall table I intend to put there to cover it up. Oh well…..

I also traced 4 patterns and cut out and prepped for sewing three of them. The fourth I got cold feet on the fabric I was going to use. I decided I didn’t want to sew it up if I didn’t really like the fabric. I did wear my wrap dress out to dinner and the movies the other night. I even got compliments on how nice I looked!

I picked up some new fabric at The Needle Nook 2 weekends ago when I was in Wichita.  I added  a picture in because I thought it was pretty. See?

I think out of the navy print I want to make a tunic dress. I’m thinking of using Simplicity 3893  (view b) and just making it longer, but I really don’t want to have to wear a camisole underneath it. I’m hoping it’s just necessary if you are a bustier girl, which I am of course, not.

I got the Singer taken apart, cleaned, oiled, and put back together. The bobbin winder even works!  I really sweated that part because I had such a beast of a time putting it back together. I don’t know what to do about the flywheel though. The inside looks kind of gunky and chunky. It says something about cleaning that with kerosene and then reoiling it too, but I’m not quite certain how to go about doing that. Here are some pictures of the finished project:

Nathan and I went to see Public Enemies this weekend, and  I was a little disappointed. I expected it to be better. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t wonderful like I’d hoped for.

Well, I’m going to get off here and go to bed. I have to get up and run in the morning  since I didn’t run this morning. I’m going to sew tomorrow evening and Wednesday!

We got so much done on our day off! We got up at seven, had some doughnuts at Daylight Donuts, and then got to work. I think we worked on the house for 12-13 solid hours yesterday.  Here are the things we got done:

I had not done laundry in about 1 week.

I had not done laundry in about 1 week.

1) Laundry. About 4 or 5 loads, which still need to be folded. Nathan doesn’t know it yet, but we’re going to fold it tonight while we watch Quantum of Solace. Maybe that will make it a little more palatable.

Doesn't it look nice?

2) A new shelf for my cabinet. Nathan made it for me. He even routered the edges so it would look like the other shelf. It’s so nice not to have smashed bread.

Ta Da!

3) Installed light in downstairs hallway. This beast of a light fixture has been sitting in our house, taking up floor space, for a year plus. Nathan actually gets more credit on this project. Even though I took down the old fixture and installed the new box, he’s the one who patched the rather large hole I made doing that and hung up the new light. I was about ready to throw the !?#@!? light fixture on the floor and shout obscenities at it. The threaded post that was with it wasn’t long enough to catch the box. But it is done now, and doesn’t it look nice.

4) Got my next sewing project started. This actually gets lumped into the home improvement realm because it will clear up some clutter in the dining room. Buddy spilled pop into the bag trying to get some leftover supper one night. The bag is not removable, so I cut it off. I’m going to use it as a pattern to make one that is removable.

5) Odds and Ends. Obviously, I didn’t make Samantha’s accessories, but I did open the box they came in. That counts for something. It’s also a prettier picture than me mowing, raking up some twigs, watering my plants, and touching up paint. Incidentally, the oil-based Kilz over those pink dots in the bedroom worked well.

Only before picture I could find on short notice.

 6) I saved the best for last. I got a coat of paint on the upstairs bathroom and Nathan got the built-ins for the holes on either side of the shower. They look so good! I hope to get the built-ins primed tomorrow morning.

Looks so much better!

And mom, if you’re going to start correcting my grammar, I will be forced to start correcting your spelling. 🙂 I have to go back to work now.
